I can't believe that this will be the last week of the month! We are getting closer and closer to spring! Here is a look at our week ahead:
* Mitch is our MVP!
* This will be our last week of ISAT prep before our testing week. I will send home a note explaining our testing schedule and tidbits on how to prepare for testing later in the week.
* Thanks to all of those who have turned in their conference preference forms. If you have not turned in your form, please do so ASAP. The teachers are meeting Thursday morning to schedule the conferences. You will find out your scheduled conference time either the end of this week or the beginning of next week.
* In reading we will continue to work with our reading responses. The kids have done a wonderful job of citing text from a passage to answer a question. We are now focusing on connecting to the passage or extending our thinking/opinion about the topic. It's a difficult concept, but the kids are beginning to understand it...we'll get there!
* In writing, we are working to show traits in a text through quotations. The kids are learning how to correctly punctuate quotations and paragraphs (indenting). We will begin to review the power of strong speech tags in dialogue to show emotion.
* This will be our last week working on our explorer projects. The kids will present their projects to the class by the end of the week and we will end Chapter 5 in History Alive. If time allows, we will begin Unit 6 which is on the early English settlements. The kids will learn about Roanoke, Jamestown, and Plymouth.
* The kids took their math test over Unit 6 and we will begin Unit 7 this week. Unit 7 covers fractions and probability. This week we will focus on basic fraction concepts, finding a fraction of a whole, and probability (determining what is fair and unfair, as well as, writing fractions that convey the chances of something happening). We will continue to practice our problem solving and explanations as well.
