Hope you all had a great long weekend! We're in class only 4 days this week, but we will be very busy. ISAT testing is only 2 weeks away. We will be practicing our long responses in both reading and math a lot during these last few weeks. Here is a look at our week ahead:
* A huge thank you to Mrs. Morgan, Mrs. Thiessen, Mrs. Mrowicki, Mrs. Mueller, and Mrs. Barba for a fantastic Valentine's Day Party. The treats, games, and decorations made for a memorable and wonderful afternoon!
* Thanks to Giancarlo for being such a great MVP last week. We will not have an MVP this week due to our shortened week.
* ISAT testing is in 2 weeks---I will post or email a schedule for testing once it is set. I will also give more information on snacks, schedule changes, etc with next week's blog.
* Six Flags 6-Hour Reading is due on February 22nd!
* Conference request forms went home with your child on Friday. Please return these as soon as possible. When filling them out, keep in mind that the evening slots fill up quickly. It is important for you to give all 4 options for us, as we plan as an entire school for our conference times. Please refrain from requesting one particular time slot or one particular time!
* Weekly folders will not go home this week due to the shortened week.
* Library will be on Thursday this week. In order to make up for our Monday off, our district will follow a Monday schedule on Thursday.
* We completed unit 6 in math last week. The kids received a study guide/practice test to do for homework over the weekend. We will spend Tuesday reviewing this in class, take the unit test on Wednesday, and then do some work with perimeter and area, as well as probability throughout the rest of the week. Our new unit will begin next week--it will cover fractions and more detailed probability lessons.
* In WEX, the kids will continue to work on citing details from the text in their writing. We will also explore dialogue: recognize the author's use and feelings it conveys, study the rules of punctuating dialogue, and understand how it can enhance the plot of a story.
* In reading we will continue to work on our extended reading responses. The kids are doing a great job citing details from the text to answer a question. We will really focus on connecting to these details and explaining our opinion of a text. The kids will also work with poetry this week. We will learn about verse, rhyme scheme, and the use of figurative language. The kids will become familiar with finding the meaning in poetry and reading between the lines.
* We are working hard on collecting information about our explorers in social studies. The kids will begin their projects in class (keynote, poster, interview, or rap) and our goal is to share information about our explorer by the end of the week. When not presenting their project to the the class, the kids will be taking notes from the other explorer presentations. We will use these notes to help us in a written response as a culminating activity.
