SEPTEMBER FUN!

We are having another wonderful week in room 258.  The class is settling in nicely to daily routines and we are participating in many different activities.  What a great looking group we were for picture day!

MAP TESTING TIME!   PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD STARTS THE DAY WITH A HEALTHY BREAKFAST AND BRINGS FRUITS AND/OR VEGETABLES FOR SNACK TIME. 

OUR MAP TESTING DATES ARE:  

Friday, September 14th at 1:30 pm for Reading 

Wednesday, Sept., 19th at 10:45am for Math.

*In science, we are conducting experiments in order to explore the properties of solids, liquids and gases.  We will discover ways to measure the weight and volume of these states of matter and observe the many ways they change.  We have been working as scientists creating our own experiments, making predictions, recording observations and then using what we have discovered to make conclusions about the states of matter.

*We have spent a lot of time discussing different types of genre the children can choose to read. This month's book report choice is Realistic Fiction but we encourage your child to try different types of books in order to keep reading exciting. The requirements for the September book report should have come home - please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.  Thank you to all that signed and returned the Weekly Reading Log.  A new log will be sent home every Monday.

* Chinese classes have started this year with total immersion as the teachers have only spoken in Chinese to the students.  Your child has learned to say "hello", "my name is", and "good bye" in Chinese. 

*Get ready for your close-up interview! Your child will start a research project on the origin and meaning of their name. This is a favorite activity for teachers and students as they learn so many new things about themselves and their families.                                                                                *Friday is "Dot Day".  We will read Peter Reynolds' book and learn that each of us can make our mark on the world.  Be sure to ask your child how they made their mark today!                                                                   Remember to sign those Friday Folders and send them back with any comments you may have.  It is a great way for us to communicate on a weekly basis.  And, as always, don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
