I hope you all had a safe and exciting Memorial Day weekend! We are in the home stretch now! The kids have 3 PACKED days of academics and then a celebration on Friday with Field Day and our Camelot Pool Party. Get ready--it's going fly by!!!!
* Field Day and Camelot Pool Party is on Friday. Information about the day will be given in a separate letter to your child in the beginning of this week. We will discuss the do's/don'ts for the day and answer any questions they may have. If for some reason your child is not able to concentrate on work Tuesday-Thursday, he/she will be spending the morning or/and afternoon in the office making up any work that he/she owes on Friday. It's important that the kids stay focused for this last push of academics!!!! Last week was a tough one for some of our classmates! If your child cannot participate, he/she will be the one to make the phone call home to you on Thursday to let you know why and what he/she will do in place of the outdoor activities.
* We are finishing up our WEX stories this week! The kids are finished editing and revising. They are working on their final creations! We will then have some time for creating survival guides for the upcoming 4th graders for next year--now that everyone in our class is a 4th grade pro!
* We will present our billboards of the colonies in social studies on Tuesday. We will also go over the study guide for our test that is on WEDNESDAY (your child received the study guide last Tuesday). We will then begin the next unit which is on slavery. The kids will focus on three dilemmas that the enslaved Africans faced: the European slave trade in Africa, the Middle Passage, and their arrival in America.
* In reading we will finish up our reading groups and also take some time to read about slavery. Just a reminder that our May book report/book talk is due on FRIDAY! I will collect these, check them in, and we will present the book talks on Monday. If your child wants to practice his/her book talk over the weekend, I will be able to give them just their plan sheet to practice so he/she is confident on Monday. However, it is YOUR CHILD'S responsibility to ask for this before we leave on Friday.
* We will go over our Unit 10 math test on Tuesday. We will then begin Unit 11: 3-D shapes, weight, volume, and capacity. This week our focus will be on weight and measurements (particularly ounces and grams), as well as geometric solids. The kids will review/explore properties and work to identify various solids.
* This is a special week for Ms. Csensich! A note regarding this week went home with your child last Monday or Tuesday. I will review the activities with your child each day, however, just keep in mind that the students are encouraged to write a note to Ms. Csensich and bring it to school either Tuesday or Wednesday to get us started!
* I think that covers it! One more week after this one! Where has the year gone?!?!?!?
