The Week of May 21st

The weeks get more and more hectic as time goes by!  This week the kids are in school for 3 days and we have TONS going on!  Between the talent show and jazz assembly, our schedule is packed!
* We are officially out of MVP's from our class.  Thanks to everyone for participating!  It was so much fun learning more about the kids!
* Scholastic book orders were put in and we should have our books by the end of the year!
* Please remember that all Camelot permission slips are due by May 23rd!  Additional information about both field day and our Camelot trip will come home next week with your child.
* In writing, the kids are working to polish up their fiction stories.  We worked last week to revise our dialogue and details to make sure we were showing and not telling.  This week the kids will edit for punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.  Then they will put it all together for their final draft.  I can't wait for you to read their creations!
* Believe it or not, we have completed Unit 10 in math!  The kids will have a study guide/practice test on Monday, we will review in class on Tuesday, and they will take their final math test of the year on Wednesday.  We will begin Unit 11 the following week, however, we will not get all the way through this unit before the end of the school year.  Therefore, the Unit 10 assessment will be the last TEST grade of the trimester.  We will still be collecting grades for class work though!  A parent note explaining the next unit will come home with your child next week!
* Almost all of our guided reading groups are finished!  We will spend these last couple of weeks reading shorter books and working on our reading discussions!  The kids will take on a new role with each meeting that we have.  I'm looking forward to a fun end of the year!
*  The kids are split up into groups and are working on their colony billboards during social studies.  Each group has a historian, graphic artist, sales person, and advertiser.  They have worked hard to plan out their billboards and will begin creating their billboards in class next week.  Then we will present these to the whole class. The kids will also be helping colonists find the perfect colony for them by answering real estate letters in class.
* I think that's it!  For those of you who are traveling this weekend, have a safe trip and we'll see you next week!
