Hope everyone had a great Mother's Day! This is our last full week of school for the kids--where did the time go? Here is a look at our week ahead:
* I apologize for not getting Weekly Folders out last week. They will come home one final time this Friday with the kids.
* Just a reminder that our Art Institute field trip is this Wednesday! The bus will be leaving by 9:05 and the teachers will meet the kids on the blacktop at 8:50. Please make sure your child is at school on time. The bus will not be able to wait for anyone! Please refer to the colored reminder sheet that was sent home with your child last week for additional information about lunches and drop off.
* Scholastic book orders are due Wednesday! Please place your orders online so that I can submit this in time to receive the books before the end of the school year!
* In grammar this week, we will work with the difference between good and well. We will also review what adverbs are and how to identify them.
* In writing, the kids will review how to correctly paragraph their stories. We will organize and edit our narratives to get them ready for the final copies. The kids will work to edit their dialogue and have a chance to write their climax and turning point. This will be the last week we spend writing our rough drafts. The kids will be working on their final drafts all next week.
* We continue Unit 10 in our math program. This week we continue to work with our transparent mirrors. We will review reflection, explore symmetry, learn about friezes, and learn positive and negative numbers.
* We only have a few of the small reading groups that need to finish up their novels. We will continue to work in these groups, read some new books for literature circles, and also begin our last reading unit on summarizing and synthesizing.
* The kids began learning about the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies last week in social studies. This week we will continue to take notes on these colonies. The kids will then pretend to be real estate agents and work on their advertising skills. They will create a billboard for their colony and also help new colonists find the perfect place to live (using the information learned from the reading).
* I think that covers everything. Have a great week!
