I hope everyone had a great long weekend!
* Thank you again to our room reps and volunteers for a wonderful Valentine's Day party: Mrs. Zyck, Mrs. Cichon, Mrs. Gress, Mrs. Duncan, and Mrs. Kim.
* Corey is our MVP this week!
* In reading, we will continue to work with genre. The kids will explore the differences between myths, fables, folk tales, legends, and tall tales. The kids continue to work on their long responses and adding in their meaningful connections. We will work with poetry and go on a hunt for personification, similes, metaphors, and idioms. We are getting better at reading between the lines of poetry and determining the mood and rhyme scheme of the poem.
* The kids finished up their polished pieces for WEX. We will spend our writing time this week and next doing some creative writing and also using this extra time to review some science concepts that will be covered on ISAT tests.
* We begin Unit 7 in math. Unit 7 is on fractions and their uses with a little touch of chances and probability. This week we will review the basic fraction concepts and vocabulary. The kids will work to find fractions of a set and work with probabilities when the outcomes are equally alike. We will also continue to review data (mean, median, range, and mode) and work on our long responses in problem solving.
* In social studies the kids are hard at work on their explorer projects. This week the partnerships/groups will get a chance to pick how they would like to present their information to the class: keynote/google presentation, poster, rap/song, or an interview. They will have this week to work on their projects in class and we hope to finish these and present to the class next week.
* Conference request forms will be coming home the beginning of this week. Please fill out your top 3 choices for conference times. Remember, you cannot just mention one day/time that works for you--this makes it VERY hard for us to schedule everyone. These forms are due back by Monday, February 27th at the LATEST.
* I hope you all have a great start to the week!
