Congratulations to all of our inventors! You are all so talented and creative! We loved seeing your inventions and hearing how you can help solve problems in our everyday lives!
I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend, and got some rest after our Invention Convention last Friday. Get ready to go full-speed ahead for these next 4 days. Here is a look at our week ahead:
* Ethan is our MVP this week!
* Our ISAT prep begins this week. The kids will take a pretest over literacy vocabulary that we will use for future mini-lessons. We will also begin practicing the extended response to literature with our large and small group work. Our WEX work gave us a great base for this! I will talk to the kids about the tests they will be taking, and we will review the rubrics which they will be graded on.
* In writing, we continue to work with dialogue this week. The kids will work to punctuate dialogue and identify places in text where dialogue supports a characters feelings and actions. We will practice using quotation marks, commas, and indenting whenever a new character is speaking.
* We take on pronouns this week in grammar. We will work with both singular and plural nouns. The kids will practice matching the pronoun to the noun it is replacing.
* We begin Unit 6 in math, which covers division and measuring angles. A parent letter explaining the unit in detail went home with your child on Friday. This week we will cover multiplication and division stories. We will cover multiple strategies for dividing and practice long division with one divisor. The kids will continue to work with problem solving--showing their thinking and explaining their process while using mathematical vocabulary. We will also work to interpret remainders.
* Our science unit will have us experimenting with mixing and separating solids and solutions. The kids will get to manipulate materials to come up with ways to separate properties of materials. They will also work with identifying properties of a mysterious material called, Whatzit! The kids will receive a study guide on Tuesday over changing states of matter and we will be taking a quiz over the material on Thursday.
