This is the kid's first full week in quite a while. We are working away in the classroom, as the weeks just seem to fly by. Here is a look at our week ahead:
* There will be no Weekly Folders during this last trimester. The kids are doing a wonderful job following our classroom routines and are used to our classroom expectations. If for some reason, your child has an off week or has a situation in class that warrants a note/call, I will be sure to contact you.
* In reading we will continue to work with our inference skills. We will continue to infer without text by using wordless movies to infer character traits/feelings, setting, plot, etc. We will then begin to introduce the strategy of using text to help us infer vocabulary with some simple picture books.
* We are officially done with James and the Giant Peach! The kids are now working to create a believable character to write which they will include in a short story. We will do different activities to help the kids form their characters' personalities. The kids will work with the shape of a story and begin to show their character in everyday situations.
* In science, we will talk about landforms and the way that they relate to earth's changing surface. The kids will study rivers and we will create river tables to observe how water erodes and deposits. The kids were given a "Sand Castle" extra credit project that can be done at home. This is completely optional, but may be a nice way to transfer what they have learned in class to the environment around them.
* We will finish up Unit 7 in math this week. Monday will be a review in class, Tuesday we will review probability, and Wednesday we will take the test. A parent note about our new unit in math will come home later in the week. This new unit will cover perimeter, area, and scale.
* Hopefully this week will bring a bit more sun than last week and some warmer temperatures. Spring has to come soon, right? Have a great week! ~ Mrs. Galazka
