MUSIC SHOW AND OPEN HOUSE WEEK
This is the week we have been working so hard for. All of the Ivy Hill 4th graders will be performing in the 4th grade music show on Tuesday at 9:30am, Wednesday, 2:15pm and Thursday, 9:30 am. We hope you are able to join us one of the days for a special look at some famous music composers and enjoy the many talents of our 4th graders.
Thursday, October 25th is also Ivy Hill's Open House from 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Come tour the school and find out about all the special activities your child has been working on. Remember, if you own a smart phone and want to get the full experience of your child's name research project, you may want to download QR reader before coming to the open house. We will also have ipads and computers available if you don't have access to a smartphone.
This week is also Red Ribbon Week. The students will vote for a better future for themselves by pledging to be drug free. Some other activities for the week are: Monday - wear red; Tuesday - crazy hair (ONLY after the music show); Wednesday - wear mis-matched shoes day; Thursday - wear your favorite athletic gear day and Friday- pajamas day. We encourage all the students to participate in the activities and work towards a drug free future.
* Our Star Student this week is Kailin - it is exciting to learn so many new things about our classroom friends.
The students have been working very hard in many academic areas as well.
* On Tuesday we will have a science quiz that covers what we learned about changing states of matter and creating experiments with variables. We will conclude our unit on matter by observing mixtures and how to separate solid mixtures and liquids. After this unit we will move on to our study of Native Americans.
* In Math, we have been working on our multiplication and division tables and discovering many number patterns that help us memorize our facts. We will continue to take one minute Mad Minute tests 2 -3 times a week to improve our skills. Please encourage your child to study their facts at home.
* In reading, we have explored the many features of non-fiction text and practiced several strategies to aid in our comprehension of non fiction writings. This week the students will demonstrate what they have learned when they choose a topic and create their own non-fiction page highlighting several of the features discussed.
* We continue to improve on our writing through the WEX program. This week we learned how to review our work and create our own revision assignments in order to make our story more interesting to the reader. The skills of focus and showing will come in handy when the students write their own personal narratives later this month.
* Halloween is just around the corner. Please remember to keep the costumes free of violence and no fake weapons of any kind. A note listing the foods to be served at the afternoon party will come home next week. No extra foods will be allowed the day of the party if it is not on the list and no homemade goods are allowed. We appreciate your cooperation in order to provide a safe and fun day for all the students.
As you can see, we are quite busy and having fun. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to seeing all of you at Open House on Thursday!
