EVERYBODY COUNTS WEEK!

We are in the middle of October already!  This week will be very busy with music practice, bus evacuation and Everybody Counts.  We hope that your child's experience in the Everybody Counts activities on Wednesday afternoon will help them be more aware of the needs and capabilities of everyone around them.  We will also have a demonstration on fire safety on Tuesday afternoon.
They did it again!  The students of room 258 have earned another class reward for their outstanding efforts in school.  This Friday, October 19th will be Crazy Hair Day in our room.  I can't wait to see what crazy hairdos will walk in the room.
* Our Star student this week is Olivia!  She has been waiting eagerly to share all her news.
*  In math we have started Unit 3 which will focus on working with muliplication and division concepts.  We will also start Mad Minute math this week in order to improve on our multiplication and division facts.  We will begin with the multiplication facts and then move on to division later.  A letter explaining the mad minute process will come home this week.
*  In Grammar this week we will work on identifying and using common and proper nouns.
* We will continue focusing on the skill of "showing" in our WEX writings.  The kids are all so eager to share their writings with each other and to give positive feedback to one another.  In preparation for Open House next week, each student is working on an "I am" poem which will be on display for all to enjoy.
* In reading we are taking a look at the many features of Non Fiction texts and discussing what the features teach us about the subject.  We are working on ways to improve our comprehension of non fiction literature by merging our knowledge of what we know with the new facts we learn.  I hope your child is practicing his/her reading strategies at home.
*  Condensation and Evaporation are the focus of our explorations in science this week.  The students will work in groups to set up a "fair" experiment in evaporation.  How are your evaporation experiments doing at home?  I hope your family has enjoyed exploring science together.
* Reflections entries are due this Friday, October 19th.  This is an optional school activity for any student that wants to share their hidden talents.
* Next week we will be performing our 4th grade music show.  We hope you are able to come and enjoy the many talents of our Ivy Hill 4th graders.  Check our blog calendar for dates and times.
*Open House is next week, October 25th!  Have you listened to your child's Name Research project on our LMC twitter account?  You will have a chance to view it in a unique way at our open house.  If  you have a smart phone you will want to download QR reader before next Thursday in order to get the full experience.  If you do not have a smart phone, ipads and computers will be set up for you to also enjoy the full effect.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
