WELCOME FALL!
It is hard to believe that Autumn has arrived! We have completed a full month of school and are eagerly preparing for the October open house. What wonderful hard working students we have. Due to their outstanding behaviors and work ethic, the class has earned a special reward. The students decided to have a pajama day and watch a movie at lunchtime. We will enjoy this treat on Thursday, October 4th. During lunchtime, the students will eat their lunch in the classroom and watch a G rated movie. Students DO NOT have to participate in the pajama day part if they don't want to.
REMEMBER - NO SCHOOL on Friday, October 4th ( School Improvement day) and Monday, October 8th (Columbus Day).

Other plans for this week:
* Science - We continue to study the states of Matter and how they can change. We will have a short quiz covering the first 6 lessons we have completed. A study guide will be completed in class and the children can use it to study for the test.
* Writing - The students are working hard to put together a fun presentation of their name research project. Look for the completed project at the upcoming open house.
* Math - We continue to explore data and how to create graphs in order to study and interpret the data. The students also practiced their skills in addition and subtraction of muliti- digit numbers. Believe it or not, we are near the end of Unit 2 and will be preparing for the unit test sometime this week.
* Reading - What a busy week of practicing our new Comprehension skills. We have learned ways to listen to our inner conversations when we read, write them down and then share our thoughts with classmates in order to enhance our comprehension of the material read. Understanding that we sometimes lose our train of thought or get distracted while reading, we learned some quick "fix -it" strategies to get ourselves focused on what we are reading. These skills will be practiced throughout the year as we continue to explore various genres of literature.
* Words Their Way - The students have been successful in adapting to the new spelling program. They are getting familiar with learning the ways words are spelled and their patterns rather than just memorizing a few words for a test. You should start seeing the packets of spelling activities coming home as your child completes them.
As you can see, we are very busy with many exciting activities going on. With the next two weeks being short a day, it will seem even busier. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at school or through email.
