Another 4 day week!

Hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and had a great holiday (if you celebrated either of them!).  The kids are back for 4 days this week, before we return to a regular 5 day schedule next week.  Here is a look at our week ahead:
* Eric is our MVP of the week!
* We welcome student #28 to our classroom--we're excited to have Aniya join us!
* Tuesday we will follow a Monday schedule.  We will also have an Art Awareness presentation in the morning by some of our parents and an environmental awareness assembly put on by PTA.  Thanks to all involved in getting the day ready for us!
* We will continue to use the same characters the kids created in WEX last week during writing.  This week we will work to put the characters into everyday situations.  We will also begin to talk about the shape of a story (intro, problem, rising actions, climax, and conclusions).
* In grammar we will work with articles.  The kids will work with words such as: the, a, and an.
* During reading, we will continue to work with nonfiction articles to determine important facts vs. interesting facts.  We will also discuss the opinion of the author, what he/she wants us to remember, and if we agree/disagree with the point of view.  We will do this in a large group, as well as individually.
* We continue to work with area in math this week.  We start off the week by finding the area of our skin (yikes!).  We will work our way through formulas for finding the area of rectangles, triangles, and parallelograms.  The kids will also receive an individual project that they can work on to extend their learning about perimeter and area.
* We will review what we learned about conductors and insulators from last week during science.  We will also talk about electrical safety both inside and outside of the home.  The kids will receive a study guide about electricity on Friday.  The test over this material will be next Wednesday.
*Have a wonderful rest of the week and, as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!
