* We begin Unit 10 in math this week. We obviously won't be able to finish the unit before the end of the year, however, we will get through a few lessons. Unit 10 focuses on reflections and symmetry. We will be doing activities with transparent mirrors to explore reflections and lines of reflection and begin to make connections between reflections and line symmetry. There will be no more tests in math this year. We will have one more mad minutes test this week.
* Our test over Chapter 8 of History Alive will be on Thursday! The kids have a study guide, their hard cover text book, and the online tutorial to use to help them study. This will be the last test grade for social studies this year. We will then begin Chapter 9 in our series. Chapter 9 covers life in colonial Williamsburg. The kids will take a tour of the town as they learn what life was like in the colony for both white colonists and African American slaves. The kids will have a chance to experience the life of a colonist while taking part in stations that deal with everyday life such as: education, trades, social life, government, slave quarters, and religion. The stations that we do not have a chance to get to this week, we will continue with next week.
* In writing, the kids are working to finish the final draft of the believable stories! We spent the majority of last week editing/revising our drafts and now it's time to put all our hard work together. We will focus on using dialogue, providing multiple showing details, and correctly paragraphing our ideas.
* We will finish up our small novel groups in reading this week. We will also be catching up on our current events with Time for Kids magazines.
* Information will be sent home later this week about our Camelot field trip and Field Day. Let's hope we have lots of sunshine for Friday!
* STARS lunch for May will be Wednesday, June 1st! Congrats to all the kids who have made it to a STARS lunch celebration this year. The STARS pizza lunch for kids who have made it to the STARS lunch 4 out of the 5 months will be on Thursday, June 2nd. The kids who have made it to the pizza lunch will be given an invitation tomorrow. Both STARS lunches will take place in the LMC. Please make sure that if you child is bringing a lunch to the celebration, that it is peanut and tree nut free!
* If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. Have a great start to the week!
