Happy Mother's Day! Hopefully everyone had a chance to enjoy the beautiful weekend! Here is a look at our week ahead:
* Thank you so very much for all of the events last week for Teacher Appreciation Week. The breakfast was yummy, the baby pictures were adorable, and seeing the kids in my favorite colors and sports teams was amazing. I enjoyed the thank you cards and the flowers made our room colorful and smell pretty-thank you so much! I know our room reps put a lot of thought and planning into the week. It is very much appreciated!!!
* Suhani is our star student this week. We look forward to hearing more about her!
* This week we will take our trip to the Art Institute on Wednesday. As of now, we are not in need of parent volunteers. A note with more information about our trip will come home with your child in the beginning of the week. The kids should plan to wear their "I am Ivy Hill" green shirts.
* Our JDRF walk will be on Friday. For those who are raising money for the cause, you can send your money in by Friday. We will spend a half an hour of our afternoon walking in support on Friday. Your child will be walking even if he/she is not raising money. Our whole school is showing our support for the cause!
* The kids will finish up their rough drafts of their short stories in WEX this week. We will spend the rest of the week editing and revising these drafts. We will review writing interesting grabbers and take away endings. I will share the rubric that I will grade the kids with early in the week.
* In math, we will practice converting fractions to percents with data we collected from a survey a while back. We will also be multiplying and dividing fractions. The kids will use their estimation skills to know where to place the decimal point in their answers. These will be the last few lessons from unit 9. We will take the test over this material next week. A study guide and review will be done in class next week as well.
* Our science unit will have us work more with transporting sand. We will look at the effect of plants on sand dunes. We will examine our rock jars to view abrasion and work to categorize rocks. We will begin to talk about Tectonic Plates. We will also study the layers of the earth.
