Happy April!!!! Here is a look at our week ahead:
* Veronika is our Star Student! We are looking forward to learning more about her this week!
* Our genre of the month is Award Winners. The kids can pick out any award winner or nominee. Some awards given to books are the Bluestem, Newbery, Caudill, or Eagle Book Award. Information about this genre and deadlines will be given to your child on Tuesday.
* This week we will finish up our social studies projects. The kids began making their explorer iMovie trailer last week. This week we will add in our images and text to create our presentation. We will have a chance to view each others' project later in the week. The kids will reflect on their own work with the project rubric before being graded by me.
* Unit 7 of math is coming to a close. We will do our last lesson of the unit on Monday. We will spend Tuesday and Wednesday doing a practice test and reviewing. The kids will take a test over this material on Thursday. A parent letter explaining our next unit will come home later this week. Keep practicing those math facts!!!
* We will spend one more week on poetry in writing. We will create imagery webs to produce similes and metaphors. We will also work on subject poems. The kids will do some work with haikus and clerihews to end the week. We will get back to our WEX routine next week.
* In reading, we will continue to work on our inferencing skills. This week we will use our skills to decipher poetry. We will distinguish between standard and inferential subheads and titles. The kids will practice reading with a question in mind (essential question) and also using text to determine the theme of a story. Please encourage your child to keep logging in his/her minutes to biblionasium!
