It feels like summer, but we haven't even officially hit spring yet. I hope everyone has had the chance to enjoy the weather that we have been having! This is our last week before the kid's spring break. Thank you for taking the time to meet with me on Monday and Tuesday during parent/teacher conferences. I'm looking forward to another trimester with your child!
* There will be no MVP this week, due to only 3 days of school.
* In writing, the kids finished up their myths. These are hanging out in the hallway--hopefully you had a chance to enjoy some of them while you were here for conferences. This week we will do some more creative writing with wacky headlines from the newspaper, as well as some unjournaling topics. When we return from break, we will begin Book 3 for WEX: writing short fiction.
* In reading, we will continue to take notes as we read and use these to respond to the text. The kids are working on FQR sheets (facts, questions, responses). These sheets help them record their thinking and reactions as they read. If time permits, we'll also try to catch up on some Time For Kids.
* In math we will have our test on Friday, March 23rd. The kids received a study guide on Friday that is due this coming Thursday. Wednesday we will learn how to multiply fractions and then we will spend the rest of the time reviewing for our test on Thursday. A parent letter explaining our next unit will come home on Friday.
* We finished working with static electricity last week and this week we will work with circuits. The kids will have a chance to experiment with a battery, wire, and light bulb. They will try to come up with ways to use these materials to make the light bulb light up. The kids will have a chance to work with battery holders and also learn about the different parts of electrical cords. Our study of electricity will continue when we return from break as well.
* If you haven't returned your brown report card envelope, please do this as soon as possible. The next report cards will come home with your child on the last day of school.
* There will be no weekly folders this week due to report cards last week and conferences this week.
* Have a great rest of your week and a wonderful spring break! Hope your travels are safe (for those of you that are lucky to leave Illinois!).
