* Dana is our MVP of the week.
* On Monday the kids will experience an Art Awareness lesson from some PTA volunteers in the morning and a lesson in fire safety from our Arlington Heights Fire Department in the afternoon.
* Tuesday is Picture Day! If you want to order pictures, please send in the picture envelope with your child (I'm also collecting them early for those who want to send it in).
* Thursday is Open House! Feel free to come in and let your child give you a tour of his/her day in 4th grade. Our school will be open from 6:30-7:30.
* This week in spelling, our lists have consonant clusters in them. The patterns will include words with "th", "wh", "sh", and "ph".
* In grammar we will work with identifying and using common and proper nouns
* In writing, the kids will be encouraged to create more complex sentences by using conjunctions. We will also continue to work with SHOWING a setting and using precise verbs. The kids will also work to finish up their "I am Poems" which will be on display during our Open House.
* In reading, we will continue to ask questions while we read. The kids will pay more attention to what they are wondering and strategies they can use while reading to help them answer their questions. We will continue to use our Reader's Notebooks to help track our thinking.
* The kids are working diligently on their Mount St. Helen projects. We will work to finish these in the classroom during the beginning of the week. The kids will receive a study guide over volcanoes and Mount St. Helens during this period as well. We will take a test over everything we've learned about these 2 things on Thursday.
* Multiplication and division facts are key to our understanding new concepts in Unit 3 of our math program. This week we will look at the relationship between multiplication and division. We will also do some work with map scale and elapsed time. Mad Minute tests will begin this week. Mad Minutes are tests designed to help students build math fluency (our focus will begin with multiplication and later move to division). A parent letter explaining how these tests will work is set to come home later this week with your child.
