Happy President's Day!
Hope you all had a great long weekend! Thanks for all of your patience last week as I was out sick. The flu and bronchitis are not a good combination. Hopefully the weekend allowed us all to get healthy and to get back on track. Here's a bit about what is ahead for us:
Thank you to Mrs. Schreiner, Mrs. Hanus, Mrs. Ryan and Mrs. Torres for bringing us an amazing lesson for Everybody Counts! The kids had a chance to see what it would feel like to have a gross motor or fine motor impairment. I'm sure they all felt very lucky for the health and abilities that we all have! What a great experience!
Thank you to our room reps and volunteers for the Valentine's Day party! Even though I wasn't there, I can tell from the kids' stories that it was a great time! Thank you for all the time you put into preparing for this!
Six Flags reading is due this Friday!!!! Make sure if you child has completed 6 hours of reading that you turn in the reading log so that your child's free ticket can be earned!
This week there will be no Treasures--this means that there will be no new spelling, grammar, DLA, or reading strategies. We will spend this week reviewing some key concepts in reading and writing such as word parts, figurative language, plot, cause/effect, and identifying genres. The kids will have no spelling test or spelling homework this week, however, there will still be some word work during the week as review.
We are working to plan a polished response to text in writing. The kids have picked a character trait to focus on and are busy finding examples from the text to prove this trait. They are working on explaining their thinking behind these excerpts and will turn these into a multi-paragraph response.
This week the kids will work to create a circuit board quiz for their electricity review. We will come up with key words and concepts that we have learned during our unit and use these to create questions to "quiz" each other. The kids will then put together a board that will allow a light bulb to light up if the right answer is given to a question. What a fun way to review and show off what we've learned!
In math we will take our test over Unit 6 on Wednesday. We will review angles and division on Tuesday in class. The kids will also have a chance to come in for a lunch review during the first half of their lunch hour on Tuesday. Wednesday will be spent taking the test and then Thursday and Friday will be some key concept reviews and problem solvers. This will help us review math vocabulary and concepts before our ISAT tests next week. A parent letter explaining Unit 7 will come home later this week. We will begin our new unit in math next week.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know! Have a great week!
